2026-27 MCHL Competition and Regional Format Update
The Metro Region Presidents have shared an update on the proposed competition structure and regional format for the 2026-27 season. Here’s what’s on the table.
U11 MCHL pilot
A two-tier pilot (Tier I and Tier II) is proposed for U11 only. Team placement will be based on pre-season evaluations, team strength, Association projections, and competitive balance. The pilot will be reviewed at season’s end to decide what comes next.
Regional participation
- U11: All MCHL teams will take part in Regionals as their existing teams.
- U13 and U15: Regional participation will be through Select Teams formed specifically for regional competition. Each Association will set its own selection process, roster requirements, and evaluation criteria for these teams.
Regional tournaments
All MCHL teams will have end-of-year playoffs within the MCHL. Year-end Regional tournaments will follow Easter at metro-area arenas. We’ll share more tournament details once they’re finalized.
We’ll pass along more information as it becomes available. Thanks, as always, for your continued support of minor hockey.
