New to Minor Hockey?

If this is your first season registering a player, start with getting a Hockey Canada Registry ID. It’s a quick process and that number follows your child for their whole hockey career, so keep it somewhere safe.

New for this year: all new player parents need to complete The Shift Forward: Evolving Hockey Culture, a mandatory online training program. At least one parent per registrant must complete the Parent Program before the season kicks off.

Moved to NL from another province and already have a Hockey Canada Registry ID? Reach out to our Executive Director, Jeremy Bishop, at jbishop@avalonceltics.com before you register. He’ll get you sorted.

Not sure where your player should register? Check out Where Do I Play?” on our website first.

Registration and Payment

We register through TeamSnap, the same platform we use for scheduling and team communication all season. If you already have a TeamSnap account from another sport, you’re good to go, no need to create a new one.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Online registration is credit card only. For other payment options, email Jeremy.
  • Pay in full or split it into four instalments. You’ll pick your option right in the app.
  • Registering three or more kids? You get 50% off the base fee for your third registration and beyond. Contact Jeremy to have that applied before you complete registration.
  • Financial support programs are available for eligible families. Details are in the “Financial Support” section of our website.

Divisions and Fees

Here’s what each division looks like this season:

Learn to Skate / Under 9

  • Learn to Skate: $400, 20 hours of ice, one hour a week on Saturday mornings starting in early October
  • U9: $800, 40 hours of ice, Saturday practice plus Sunday skills session or intra-squad game

Learn to Skate players may advance to U9 during the season if approved by our Technical Director or Executive Director.

House League (U11 to U18 Minor) All four divisions are $800 and include 20 practice hours plus games in the Metro Club Hockey League, about one a week. U11, U13, and U15 also get a season-ending tournament in March.

All-Star (U11 to U18): You’ll register through House League first, with the option to add All-Star tryouts at that point. All Star fees are still being finalized as we wait on league game counts and officiating costs. U11-U18 teams play in the Don Johnson Hockey League. Worth noting: U18 All Star is a new two-year pilot starting this season.

Female Hockey U11 to U18 Female teams play in the Girls Metro Hockey League. One registration covers all age groups; just select the Girls Hockey option when you sign up.

Beyond the Regular Season

Looking to get a jump on tryouts? Sweat Camp runs August 31 to September 5 and focuses on the skill-building drills that matter most for evaluations, with players grouped by level. Anticipated cost is $100.

Powerskating is back by popular demand after a successful pilot last year. Sessions run August 29 to September 12, eight 50-minute sessions on ice, anticipated cost $200. If you’re interested, flag it on your registration form. We’re also hoping to bring back weekly sessions in fall and winter.

We Need You

Every Celtics season runs on volunteers. We’re looking for head and assistant coaches, team managers, on-ice assistants for our youngest players, fundraising help, and folks for smaller jobs like running the canteen or handling music at games. If any of that sounds like you, let us know when you register.

Questions along the way? Jeremy Bishop, our Executive Director, is happy to help at jbishop@avalonceltics.com.

Here’s to a great season ahead!
